2012 – month by month

Although real life became a little too busy in the end last year, I really did want to participate every day in the 365 project and linky over at The Boy & Me. Considering that we had a new baby, bought an apartment and then spent five months renovating it, I think I did reasonably well to take a daily photo for 232 days of the year. What really caused a problem for me was the lack of internet connection for two months after we moved. I lost the incentive at that point, I’m afraid to say.

But then I saw a last linky for the year from The Boy & Me. Yes, she has generously set up a linky for those who want to show their favourite photos from each month. And that I can do!

An English Mamma in Stockholm: January to March

Apr-Jul 2012

Aug-Oct 2012

Nov-Dec 2012So these are my 12 favourite photos from 2012. It’s incredible to look at them and see how Baby E has grown from a newborn to a sitting, crawling and now standing baby and how much older Little O looks compared with in January last year. My little boys are growing up fast.

Theme love

One of things that I really love about having a WordPress blog (apart from the fact that I find it pretty easy to use) is the ability to change theme as often as you like. So, I’ve just spent the past 20 minutes playing around and now have a new theme for my photo blog.

So, what do you think?

* EDITED * I might or might not also have changed the theme on this blog. Ahem…

Photo 366 challenge – week 33

Well, these days I am really finding the Photo 366 challenge to be be just that: a challenge. But then I guess that is the point… We are moving a week on Wednesday and it just feels as if there are not enough days between no and then to pack up everything that we own into boxes. At least we have given ourselves a few days’ leeway and don’t actually have to be out of our current apartment until the following Monday. But still – urgh, packing…

This week then: on Monday it was all about these little books – the kind that if they were to get lost during the move, I would not mind. Little O spends every day pointing out the tractors, police cars, diggers etc in them over and over and over and over and over again. The next day, Baby E and I took a very vintage train out to a friend’s summer house – absolute bliss to be sitting out on the terrace listening to the water lapping the shore. And the next day there were Brazilian parties in town as the country was due to play Sweden that night as the closing match for the old football stadium in Stockholm.

My days are spent packing and my evenings are spent polishing up the brass door handles for the new apartment. I really am living the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle at present… But Little O has been having fun nonetheless, swinging in his little brother’s car seat, running in the Mini Mil race and standing around in large puddles, getting soaked through [sigh].

So that was our week that was. What have you been up to?

This week we’ve been playing with Lego at the local department store (we went in to look at shoes for Little O but he got very sidetracked…), packing, packing and packing more, Baby E has been eating corn puffs for the first time and Little O has been getting more practice on the buggy board.

We’ve also been spending A LOT of time at the playground on the swings, as Baby E has developed Little O’s love of them too.

Photo 366 challenge – week 29

The past week was week 2 of Little O’s preschool holidays, so we’ve been out and about discovering new things to see and do in the city.

We had fun in the bath with ducks and squirty pigs and seashells, then hugs with Little O and Baby E. On Wednesday we visited the Transport Museum for the first time and Little O loved it so much that we bought an annual pass. It’s perfect for a rainy Stockholm day with train-obsessed toddlers.

The next day we took a trip to Lidingö to Millesgården, a sculpture park and art gallery that I have been wanting to visit for a long time. Unfortunately, it proved to be the most pushchair unfriendly place in Stockholm! Still, it is beautiful there, with wonderful views back across the city, and Little O loved splashing in the pool and getting soaked!

The weather held up on Friday too, so we hopped on a bus to the embassy area and then walked out, past the telecom tower, over the bridge onto Djurgården, kicked the football around a bit and then met Husband for dinner at Ulla Winbladh, a fantastic restaurant that we’ve taken Little O to once before.

On Saturday, Baby E turned six months old. I cannot quite believe that he’s this old already. The time certainly is flying by. He seems to have decided to celebrate his first half year by teething, s we’ve had some tears at bedtime, but nothing that a little Bonjela cannot solve.

And on Sunday I baked Mellow Mummy’s wholemeal pear muffins – delicious! I adapted the recipe a little, using only half the sugar in the recipe and substituting the rest with granular stevia, which I found in the supermarket. As the recipe called for soft brown sugar I was a little loath to swap all the sugar for stevia the first time, but I think they turned out pretty well using half and half.

Little O has been off preschool all this week (and will be for the next two weeks as well), so he decided to celebrate this by coming down with a cold and fever, which he subsequently gave to Baby E, who gave it to me, and now my mother-in-law, who has kindly come to stay to help out for a few days, has got it too. I think the saying is “it never rains, but it pours”, which is also pretty weather-appropriate too at the moment.

The beginning part of the week was quite slow: playing with Duplo at home, a trip to a local park (and an investigation of bicycles by Little O) and the making of baked blueberry cheesecake (with stevia and gluten-free biscuit base). Then it was a visit to an interiors store that is closing down (my suggestion vetoed by Husband) and discovering that Baby E can hold the bottle himself (he’s so much more dextrous than Little O was at this age but so much less physical – so interesting the differences between them). Saturday night, Husband and I had a rare few hours out on our own – sitting under the awning of a near deserted bar and drinking red wine as the rain poured down. Then today a scratch dinner of leftover bits and pieces from the fridge – yum!

Right, I am going to do this and get this posted and add myself to the linky over at The Boy And Me. Yep, I am; I really am.

This week has flown by but still Monday seems like an age ago. We signed the paperwork and got the keys to our new apartment on that day and since then it has all been about the renovation work. Most days have seen Husband and I rushing around the city, looking at flooring, paint samples, electrical sockets and more, but with some fun times in the afternoons after picking up Little O from preschool. We’ve been enjoying the sunshine here in Stockholm, playing in the sandpit in our apartment block’s garden and wearing out the swings at the local playground.

Little O has also had fun trying on my shoes and completing his new Lightning McQueen jigsaw puzzle (“Keen! Keen!”).
