Niche blogging?

I’ve tried to tidy up my blog a little bit on the advice of an ebook that I read called Simple Blogging by Rachel Meeks. The book is interesting because a lot of it focuses on blogging your way – fitting blogging into family life.

As part of what I learnt from the book, I’ve moved many of the banners out of my sidebar, reclassified my categories and put a new drop-down menu up there at the top of the page (What I write about), where you can see the new categories. Only small changes but I’m pretty pleased with them.

One of the main things that I keep on reading about it targeting your niche. But if I really stick to just my one niche – parenting toddlers in Stockholm – I think it would make for very narrow reading. On the other hand, this isn’t really a full, all-round blog either. I quite like that I just sit here in my own little space, doing my thing.

What do you think? Do you think you need to find your one true niche, or can you be a bit more relaxed about things? I suppose this is the difference between the big bloggers and bloggers like me. And although I learnt a lot from the book, I think I’m also quite happy with how my blog is just now.

CrossFitLite

CrossFitLite: crossfit training tumblr blogSo as not to bore you with tales of my training on here, I’ve created a training tumblr site called CrossFitLite. A little bit of my CrossFit, my training and some paleo recipes that I have tried out. Why not pop over and have a look!

Bloglovin

Have you seen that Google Reader will cease to exist after 1 July? I know, I know… Isn’t it a crazy decision?

I actually switched over to Feedly on the iPhone a couple of weeks ago, completely by coincidence and before I read about the pending demise of Google Reader. I love the interface; my only gripe would be that I cannot seem to add all the blogs that I would like (but this seems to be a problem for many, so I would hope they’ll fix this soon). I’m testing this out and I’ve also dug out my username and password for Bloglovin, which is a fantastic app/website for catching up on all the blogs you follow.

What will you be using in place of Google Reader?

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 16,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 4 Film Festivals

All quiet on the Stockholm front

Hmmm, seems I have been a bit quiet recently. Just realised that I have not posted anything for more than a week now.

The apartment renovation is entering its final stages (after some 20 weeks!) and we’re actually started to live a “normal” life now. We moved the boys into their new bedroom on Saturday, we moved into our bedroom on Monday evening and the kitchen should (largely) be ready to use in a day or two. It feels very odd just to be us in here, rather than having four or five guys working on the place during the day. It’s a feeling I could get used to though!

Baby E has decided to up his repertoire of tricks to include standing up against furniture, which is great fun. And Little O is starting to feel a little pressure as his baby brother can now grab most of his toys.

Itchy fingers

My fingers got a bit itchy again and I’ve changed theme yet again over on my English Mamma photo blog.

Please head over and take a look and let me know what you think!

Theme love

One of things that I really love about having a WordPress blog (apart from the fact that I find it pretty easy to use) is the ability to change theme as often as you like. So, I’ve just spent the past 20 minutes playing around and now have a new theme for my photo blog.

So, what do you think?

* EDITED * I might or might not also have changed the theme on this blog. Ahem…

Still here!

Just popping in very briefly to say hello [waves]. Taking a short break from unpacking boxes to sit in the autumn breeze with a latte and a teething baby (maybe, maybe not, maybe he’ll never get teeth…) and use the wifi. (Still no telephone or internet at home – aaaaargh!)

It’s been a little chaotic, what with the move, a brief trip to hospital for Little O (suspected concussion after a fall – I’ve never been so frightened for him – more on this later, when there is more time), a new förskola for Little O (all going so, so well – we love the new preschool) and unpacking and trying to organise some kind of life with the boys both sleeping in the kitchen room, no fridge, no oven etc etc. but we’re in the new place and it is all going to be wonderful when it is finished.

It seems to be autumn here now, so I am desperately hunting through the 98 boxes that we packed, trying to find the warmer clothes for the boys that I didn’t expect to need for another month or so. But the leaves are starting to turn and to fall and the city looks lovely in this light, and occasionally the sun peeps through (like now) and I am reminded how much I like the autumn once I have adjusted to the temperature change.

Is it autumn yet with you?
