Learned this week

This week, I learned that…

  • Little O really does love his new little brother
  • you can feel more tired even after you start getting more sleep (I learned this but I still don’t understand it…)
  • maybe I can start reintroducing some dairy products back into my diet – Baby E does not seem to have had a bad reaction again when I have accidentally eaten dairy
  • I am a stronger person than I believed I was
  • Little O is not ready to stop his daytime naps – he did not sleep at preschool today, fell asleep for 20 minutes on the way home in the stroller and was inconsolable for most of the rest of the evening.

An early arrival

Baby E arrived four days early at 00.01 on Saturday morning after a quick dash to the hospital. We brought him home yesterday and introduced him to his very excited big brother.

Learned this week

This week, I learned that…

  • peanut butter gives me terrible, terrible heartburn…
  • …and the following day, that pretty much any food these days gives me terrible heartburn
  • trying to exhaust yourself so that I can sleep well at night just doesn’t work this late in pregnancy (you would have thought I’d have learnt that the first time around, but no…)
  • being breathless all the time is no fun (hmmm, yet another thing I should have remembered from last time?)
  • I can finally get my hospital bag packed!

Dotcom

So, I’ve taken the leap and decided to sort out my domain and address and make it easier for people to find me. From now on, I am now www.englishmamma.com – no more wordpress.com, no more long address.

Learned this week

This week, I learned that…

  • or more accurately, remembered what Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like – urgh
  • a toddler’s night terrors are pretty upsetting for a parent to witness (and I only hope that Little O doesn’t know/remember that he has them)
  • my shopping time has now been shortened to 60 minutes max
  • one way to brighten up a cold (-8 degrees – brrrr!) Stockholm Monday morning is to research Italian holiday villas – roll on June and sunshine!

Learned this week

This week, I learned that…

  • baking macarons is still fun but also still time-consuming, with still a lot to learn
  • I am starting to understand Twitter a bit more now
  • gyermek is a very active and wriggly little baby – cannot wait to see what that translates into after birth, given that Little O is a little ball of energy but did not move this much when I was carrying him
  • the apartment feels very empty without said little ball of energy… Roll on tomorrow when he and Husband arrive back home!

Merry Christmas!

Just popping in here to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

We actually celebrated a Swedish/Hungarian Christmas, so our big day was yesterday and, of course, ended with the traditional family game that rapidly descends into argument. Behold, the joy that is Super Mario Chess. (Who knew that a game for two could end up involving five of us…)

So, today is our crashing out in front of the tv and eating leftovers day (and maybe a few bits of chocolate here and there!).

I hope that all your Christmas wishes come true and that Father Christmas/Santa Claus/St Nick/Tomten brings you all that you desire.

Learned this week

This week, I learned that:

  • bending down can earn you a short, sharp kick to the ribs (ouch!)
  • third trimester tiredness will kick in anyway, despite you taking iron supplements
  • baking macarons is challenging but as much fun as I hoped it would be
  • the decision to stop work three weeks before the due date was a good one after all!

Learned this week

  • Even the best sleepers can have their off nights…
  • …and these are exhausting to the previously lucky parents who are used to a good sleeper.
  • Heartburn can strike even when you’ve not been eating.
  • That 33 weeks into a second pregnancy is a good time to stop training at the gym and switch to training only at home.
  • That, according to my midwife, I should have written my birth plan by now and that, according to Baby Centre, I should be packing my hospital bag this week – eek and double eek!
  • Learned this week

    • Toddler tantrums are really quite exhausting…
    • …but that ignoring them (if you can!) might just work
    • Carrying Little O for any length of time longer than 30 seconds is both tiring and painful
    • Scrubbing your nipples while still pregnant is not recommended. I hasten to add that this is not something that I tried this week but a useful tip from Baby Centre. It is not really something that ever crossed my mind to do.
    • Rain showers, a toddler and an infrequent tram service are not a good combination.
