Photo 366 challenge – week 11

Well, this has certainly been a big week for us. After waiting impatiently all last Sunday, biting my metaphorical nails to the quick, 10.30am on Monday rolled around and Husband and I headed off to the real estate agents to sign the papers – and the deal was done and we bought a new apartment! It’s actually only a couple of blocks from where we lived before, an area of the city that we really love, and so we’re very excited about the move. The place needs some work on it, so we’ll get the electrics, painting and plastering done after we get the keys in July, which means we should be able to move in mid-August. Now, we just have the small task of selling our current apartment…

Day 72:

Exciting times

Day 73:

I'm outta here!

On Tuesday, we checked our what will be our local little park when we move. Little O was less interested in the playground after we discovered that it is a dog walking park. He could not believe his luck, especially when he was taught how to throw a ball for the dogs to fetch. I think we’re going to be spending many happy hours there!

Day 74:

The view from above

Can you spot the difference between this photo and those last week? Yep, no more snowsuit! The weather has improved dramatically and so now we’re only in a vest, long-sleeved top, hoodie and padded jacket… Yes, that is an improvement!

Day 75:

Organised chaos?

I think I have a lot of work to do to get just my desk cleared so the real estate agent can take the photos of our apartment. It really is a daunting prospect.

Day 76:

Boys meets (poisonous) frog

Little O’s preschool was closed on Friday for a planning day, so we spent the morning at Fjärilshuset, the butterfly house in Haga Park. He was not so interested in the butterflies themselves but once he had managed to spot the brightly coloured little poisonous Amazonian frogs, he was fascinated. Luckily, there were a good few thick sheets of glass between them and us.

Day 77:

Day 1 and still a long way to go

Yesterday marked day one of Operation Get-The-Apartment-Tidy. It’s going to be a very big task!

Day 78:

Armed with a stor vanilj latte med laktos-fri mjölk

Today we visited Moderna Museet, the city’s modern art museum, for the first time. I would love to show you a picture of the wonderful view of the waterfront from the museum’s restaurant but unfortunately I had my hands flu trying to feed Baby, entertain Little O and keep him from pulling the shawl from my shoulder and reveal “Mimi” (his name for Baby E) to the world… Instead, here’s a photo from our trip out earlier in the day with our trusty (and beautiful) iCandy Peach Blossom stroller and my beloved “stor vanilj latte med laktos-fri mjölk” (large vanilla latte with lactose-free milk).

Photo 366 challenge – week 10

Into double figures with the weeks now – and spring seems to be on its way in Stockholm. We’ve had some lovely sunny days this week and the temperature has even reached 9 degrees. Bliss! However, this week has been about real life getting in the way and I’ve not been able to concentrate so much on taking photos. We’re waiting for some big news and I am counting down the hours until mid-morning on Monday…

Day 65:

The latest issue of Gurgle magazine

Gurgle magazine arrived! I got very excited and read half of it within the first hour after opening the plastic. I love this magazine and turn down the corners of so many pages – filled with lovely things and great ideas.

Day 66:

A wall just crying out for a picture

This wall has been, literally, a blank canvas for the past three and a half years. But no more! We’ve bought a picture for it at last. I marked its potential position with some masking tape to give us an idea of how much space we’re filling. Cannot wait for it to arrive now.

Day 67:

Polishusparken, Stockholm

On Wednesday, after collecting Little O from preschool, we headed to the main city police station with Baby E to pick up his brand spanking new passport. Since the beginning of March, if you live in Stockholm, you have been able to book a time to order a passport online on the police website. We booked a time for last Saturday and on Tuesday I received an sms informing me that it was ready for collection. Really great service!

Day 68:

Seems we just missed the wolves' feeding time...

Little O was a bit under the weather on Wednesday evening, so we decided to keep him home from preschool on Thursday. In the morning, we visited our favourite playground and in the afternoon we took the tram to Djurgården to visit Skansen, the open air museum. Skansen has a zoo of animals native to the Nordic countries, including wolves. Apparently, the wolves had been fed earlier in the day and this was a little of their leftovers…

Day 69:

Learning to hold the spade properly

A big day for Little O as he learned how to hold a spade properly. Now he is far more efficient at moving the sand from bucket to bucket!

Day 70:

Concentration

On Saturday, Little O got a crash course in using the iPhone from Husband. I am not sure how wise a move this really is…

Day 71:

The last snow of the year (hopefully!)

Little O, Baby E and I went for a long walk in the sunshine this afternoon and Little O managed to find the last patch of (filthy-looking) snow to play on. We also had fun picking up the melting ice from the ice skating rink in the city centre and watching it melt in our hands. And then Little O had his photo taken by a group of Chinese tourists, who declared him “cute” – yes, of course he is!

So that was the week that was. As I said, a little bit boring this week as there were too many other things going on with real life… Now head over to The Boy and Me and check out what others have been up to this week!

Taken at Torekov, November 2007

I took this picture in November 2007, shortly before Husband and I moved to Sweden.

Three of us – two close friends from Copenhagen and I – went for a few days to stay at Torekov Hotell in southern Sweden to relax, enjoy some spa treatments and have a few laughs.

Sadly, just over a year after this picture was taken, and three years ago this week, one of these wonderful, kind-hearted girls died from cancer, just a few months after giving birth to her first child. She remains in our thoughts and our hearts.

Photo 366 challenge – week 9

Week 9 already? The time is just flying by. And Baby E turned six weeks old yesterday – incredible. He really feels like he has been a part of our little family for longer than that, but on the other hand, I cannot believe that the time has gone so quickly. In fact, despite us having Little O, I didn’t call us “a family” before; Baby E’s arrival seems to have cemented that.

Day 58:

Husband makes a rare appearance on my blog! (Maybe even his first ever?) We returned from a long weekend spent down in the south of Sweden with his family and he took the rest of Monday off work to hang out and play with us. This is the play fort in our favourite playground. Husband enjoys it almost as much as Little O…

Day 59:

Photo © English Mamma

After collecting Little O from preschool on Tuesday, he, Baby E and I went for a long walk around the city in the winter sunshine (bliss!). Down by Gamla Stan (the Old Town) at the time time of year, you can see the large sheets of broken up ice float past as they head downstream from Lake Mälaren towards the harbour and then on to the sea. Surely a sign that spring is on its way!

Day 60:

Photo © English Mamma

These boys and their crazy sleeping positions! Baby E stayed sleeping like this for about an hour. How can that be comfortable?

Day 61:

Photo © English Mamma

In celebration of World Book Day – this is the pile of Little O’s books that lives in this sitting room. He has another large pile in his bedroom, mainly of bedtime reading stories and some special keepsake books up on one of the shelves. I’m hoping that he proves to be a book worm like me!

Day 62:

Friday was a beautifully sunny day, cold but clear blue skies. Husband took the afternoon off and he, Baby E and I went for a walk around Gamla Stan, the old town, and then went for cheeseburgers at Hotel Lydmar.

Day 63:

Photo © English Mamma

Yesterday we went back to what is becoming our new favourite local cafe for brunch (and car magazines for Little O).

Day 64:

Photo © English Mamma

Vasaloppet, an annual cross-country skiing competition here in Sweden, started at 8am this morning. As Husband has participated in the past, he is always keen to watch it. This year, however, he had not counted on a lively toddler for company for the 8am start. Unfortunately, Little O cannot stay still for more than five seconds at a time and five minutes into the race he had decided that there were far too many skiers and far too few cars involved and that clambering all over Pappa was far more fun.

So that is a snapshot of our week. Now head over to The Boy and Me and check out what others have been up to this week!

Photo 366 challenge – week 8

A little late with this one, but we’ve just returned from a long weekend down in Skåne, southern Sweden, with Husband’s family. The week has been a bit of a mixed bag with a terrible start and then the enjoyment of introducing Baby E to his grandparents, uncle and cousin.

Day 51:

Photo © English Mamma

I really didn’t have a good start to the week. On Sunday evening, I felt some pain in my left breast but thought nothing of it, as I could not feel any lumps that would suggest blocked milk ducts. But by the time we went to bed, I was in some pain and struggled to find a comfortable position to sleep in. I woke on Monday morning, checked my temperature and saw it was 37.6°, so higher than it should be but not too high but then it started to rise and rise and it became clear that I had mastitis. I won’t repeat myself here; you can read all about it in my post Two steps forward, one step back.

Day 52:

Photo © English Mamma

Tuesday was a bit of an odd day as I tried to clear up the mastitis. I spent an hour of so in the evening with the unenviable task of sorting out my receipts – urgh…

Day 53:

Photo © English Mamma

The next day, as I was feeling so much better, I had lunch with a colleague and then, as we had lunched right next door to the office, she and I headed back there and I caught up with my colleagues, which was fun.

Day 54:

Photo © English Mamma

This is Little O sitting and watching a DVD in a crate – surely the best place from a toddler’s perspective.

Day 55:

Photo © English Mamma

Elephants are all the rage in 2012 – Baby E’s new elephant comfort blanket, to join his pink elephant rattle.

Day 56:

Photo © English Mamma

Baby E in the car seat waiting to go on an adventure with Mamma and Pappa. We left Little O in the safe hands of his uncle and cousin to undertake adventures of his own (a trip to the local rubbish tip!), while we took Baby E into Malmö. Seeing as he only turned five weeks old that day, it was a sleepy adventure for Baby E and he snoozed through shopping and lunch.

Day 57:

Photo © English Mamma

The anti-colic brigade! Baby E has the Minifom before every feed and then also has the Semper tummy drops once a day. Plus I have cut back dramatically on dairy in my diet. I’m not sure which of these has eliminated much of his discomfort as I am loath to stop one of them and have the poor little mite screaming like that again. So, for now and until the colic “period” is over, we’ll rely on the boys in this photo!

Photo 366 challenge – week 7

A bit of a mixed bag of photos this week from me – some of Little O and some of the things I have seen. It has been a strange week really. Husband is coming to the end of his intense working period, which means he will finally be able to take some leave, for which I am incredibly grateful. Baby E’s first four weeks have not been the easiest, but I just glad that it was like this with him and not with Little O. I cannot imagine how I would have coped being largely on my own for four weeks with a first baby!

Day 44:

Photo © English Mamma

I’m trying to psych myself up to filling in this form to apply for Baby E’s Swedish passport. We have a slot booked at the police station to hand the forms over and get his photo taken on 5 March. So there is only so much procrastinating that I can do. (And then there is the joy of the British passport application after this…)

Day 45:

Photo © English Mamma

Not sure that they should really be recommending that people do this. (Although it has worked out well for Husband and I!) I got my Valentine’s wish today. I phoned Husband as he was on his way home and begged to know, over the sounds of a screaming Baby E and wailing Little O, when he would be home. He was two minutes away but planning a detour to buy me flowers. The flowers idea got shelved and he walked in the door two minutes later to rescue us – the perfect Valentine’s gift!

Day 46:

Photo © English Mamma

On Wednesday, I finally found the time to print out, write and post the thank you cards for Baby E’s gifts. I know I really should have done this sooner, but people will forgive me won’t they? After all, life can be a little, shall we say hectic, with a toddler and a newborn.

Day 47:

Photo © English Mamma

About an hour before I was due to pick Little O up from preschool, I had a call from them to say that he had a fever of 38 degrees and please could I collect him a little earlier. I bundled Baby E up in his snowsuit, into the stroller and jumped on the bus. By the time I got there, it was only half an hour before I would normally have collected him and it was snack time. We already knew that Little O loves his food but I really found out just how much. Despite a fever, he sat and ate three sandwiches and drank two cups of milk, while I waited for him, sweating in my winter coat. Two other little boys also had fevers and were awaiting collection; they both flopped their heads down on the table and one sobbed quietly. Not Little O – by the time he decided that he was ready to go home (at the time I would normally have collected him anyway), he also decided that he was well enough to run round and round the cloakroom seven times… Not too feverish then! Given how well he seemed, I took him to the hairdressers for a long-overdue haircut, as you might or might not be able to see in this photo.

Day 48:

Photo © English Mamma

One of Little O’s more unconventional sleeping positions!

Day 49:

Photo © English Mamma

As part of the toddler tantrums that have started recently (poor thing, he gets so incredibly frustrated that he cannot make us understand him), Little O is also showing his willpower. And this is what Little O was determined to wear yesterday afternoon. The fire engine/police car vest was something that he had grabbed in H&M and refused to let go of. We then had a little to-do at the till when, after explaining 12 or so times that he’d have to let go of it so I could pay for it, I had to wrestle it from him for an interminable 30 seconds while the girl scanned it and removed the security tag. I had not realised until yesterday just how loud Little O could scream. (He woke this morning and brought the same outfit to Husband to have put on him. Oh joy…)

Day 50:

Photo © English Mamma

Little O loves to return Baby E’s little pink elephant rattle to him if he has dropped it. It is moments like these that I cherish, when I see Little O being so gentle with his baby brother.

Photo 366 challenge – week 6

Really, week 6 already? That must mean it’s February, right? My days are in such a muddle now but I am sure that I will start to remember what day of the week, week of the month and month of the year it is soon.

Day 37:

Photo © English Mamma

This is the second time in the past week or so that I’ve spotted this taxi in the city centre. How great is this? He seems to charge the same as most other taxis. The only disadvantage that I can see is that it might not be quite as warm as a modern taxi (he is wearing a woolen hat after all). I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the Citroen DS, so I was pretty excited when I saw this.

Day 38:

Photo © English Mamma

After a long day… although I really, really longed for something a lot little stronger at that point.

Day 39:

Photo © English Mamma

Back at Karolinska hospital for the fifth time in 18 days – this time back to Amningsmottagen – the breastfeeding clinic. I feel as if I know the place pretty well by now.

Day 40:

Photo © English Mamma

Every few days, after I collect Little O from preschool, we head to the Central Station and wave goodbye to the 15.17 train to Gothenburg. I found this train by accident but I like the fact that it has only four carriages: 1st class, 2nd class, a restaurant car and the one nearest to me when I took this photo, which, according to the symbols painted on the outside, is a cocktail and piano bar.

Day 41:

Photo © English Mamma

On Friday, we hit the 2-3 week growth spurt. I took this picture of Baby E finally (!) asleep after a feed. However, he had other ideas and woke up about four minutes after this was taken. Sleep was not the theme of the day…

Day 42:

Photo © English Mamma

Husband found a great new cafe not so far from us and so we decided to check it out on Saturday. Although it was small inside, we found that if we uncoupled the carrycot from the stroller and left the stroller outside, we could sit at the bar stools in the window with Little O on Husband’s lap and Baby E safely sleeping in the carrycot under the counter. The brunch was delicious – and I’m sure that Little O would agree!

Day 43:

Photo © English Mamma

Little O sometimes takes a very casual approach to drinking his bedtime drink!

The Gallery – Me Right Now

So, I saw Tara’s prompt for The Gallery pretty early on (in fact, in the early hours of the morning) and got on with taking my photo entry immediately (but am cutting it pretty fine to add the post to her site!). The week’s prompt was: me right now. Tara wanted us to take a picture of ourselves at the time when we read what the prompt was. For me, this meant taking a picture at god knows what o’clock as I was feeding Baby E.

So, here’s my entry for this week’s Gallery:
