I have to admit something. Something a little embarrassing. I am 40 years old and I am still not totally sure what my real bra size is. I was last measured for a bra when I was 14 years old. And this means that I have bra problems. And I don’t think I’m alone in this. I suspect a great many of us are wearing the wrong size and wrong shape of bra. And when you think about it, that’s crazy. Because we wear them every day – day in, day out.
I had an idea that I wanted to go and get measured, properly measured, and buy properly fitting bras this year. Because turning 40 seemed like a good time to address this. (Doing it in my 20s, in my 30s and definitely after having the boys would have been better, but there you go.) In the end, it just didn’t happen. I carried on using accessories to try and improve the fit of my bras.
So I was interested when I heard about Third Love, a company committed to designing bras that actually fit. They even provide an infographic of some of the issues that we face daily – what they call bra-blems – and some super tips to fix them.
Solving your bra problems
Looking at this, I see I really need to be doing the scoop and swoop! It’s not a good sign that I am 40 and need to be told how to put on an item of clothing that I wear daily. But I do need these tips.
The tip about going one cup size up if you go one band size smaller makes perfect sense. I don’t know why I haven’t worked that out before.
Again, the tips on going down a cup or band size but up in the other direction are brilliant. What really got me excited though was that Third Love offer half sizes. This is perfect for someone like me, who struggles to go between cup sizes, since my cups do not exactly runneth over.
How are you with your bras’ fit? Are they comfy or do you struggle? Or are you among the 80%?
