I’ve long been a fan of Kevin Murphy shampoos and conditioners but recently I’ve seen a lot of talk in the blogosphere about Living Proof. I was intrigued by these products after seeing so many positive reviews but had not seem them on sale here in Sweden. Until a week or so ago, when I spotted them and Kevin Murphy products on offer at the Lyko store in the city centre. Which brought a perfect opportunity for a Living Proof review and to see how the shampoo and conditioner compare with Kevin Murphy.
Living Proof PhD shampoo and conditioner
What I like about them: The main positive for me was that the promise on the shampoo held true: I have been able to go longer between washes, which is something I love. Typically, I have to wash my hair every other day (or resort to dry shampoo) but with Living Proof I definitely got an extra half day between washes and I can even stretch that out to an extra day between if I wear my hair up and am not playing with it. I suspect that the promise of improved hair over time from the conditioner might also hold true.
What I don’t like about them: I don’t really like the way my hair feels immediately after rinsing out the conditioner. It’s not as smooth as with the Kevin Murphy products, although after brushing and styling it does feel just as good. The smell of the shampoo and conditioner is okay but not great. A little niggle, but I find the conditioner very hard to squeeze out of the bottle as it’s quite thick and the opening in the lid is narrow. The shampoo and conditioner are pricey and do cost a little more than the Kevin Murphy products.
Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me wash and rinse
What I like about them: I like the way my hair feels after washing and conditioning with the Kevin Murphy products – very soft and manageable immediately, even before brushing. The smell of the products is great, in my view, although I imagine that others could find it somewhat overpowering. Although a bit expensive, the Kevin Murphy products are a little cheaper than the Living Proof shampoo and conditioner.
What I don’t like about them: Unlike the Living Proof products, when using the Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner I have to wash my hair more frequently, which can be frustrating.
In the end, I think that the Kevin Murphy products might narrowly win, but I think I might buy some more of the Living Proof to have when I want to swap shampoo for a little. I don’t know about you, but I like to do that every so often – I have this (probably misguided) belief that it’s good for your hair so that it doesn’t get too used to certain products. (I’m sure that hair stylists would roll their eyes on reading this…)
How about you? Have you tried either brands? What do you think of them?0
