Over at British Mummy Bloggers, Nickie at Typecast has opened up a meme called Infinite Playlist to all those who want to take part. The idea is to pick five songs that you could listen to over and over again. Like Nickie, however, five was just not enough for me. So here are my choices – the top five:
- Beyond The Sea – Bobby Darin
- Dance Me To The End of Love – Madeleine Peyroux (first dance song at our wedding)
- Life On Mars – David Bowie
- Personal Jesus – Johnny Cash (perhaps even better than the original?)
- God Only Knows – The Beach Boys
And then the others:
- I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor – Arctic Monkeys (or pretty much any other track from Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not)
- I Fought The Law – The Clash
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps – The Beatles
- Son Of A Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield
- Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley
- Dare – Gorillaz
- Get Your Way – Jamie Cullum (saw him live at Tivoli in Copenhagen a few years ago – fantastic concert)
- Hallelujah – Rufus Wainwright
- Supreme – Robbie Williams (the video just adds to it)
- Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd (my ultimate driving song, which is odd since I am originally from Surrey, not Alabama…)
- Paradise City – Guns ‘n’ Roses
Looking back over this, it appears that I was born at least 30 years too late for my music taste…
So how about you? What would be your five songs for the Infinite List? Instead of tagging five people, I am going to open this up and tag anyone who wants to join in. Looking forward to hearing your favourites too.

I love Beyond The Sea
And I have to agree that the first Arctic album was the best. Anything by Gorillaz gets my vote too and also the Hallelujah and Sweet Home Alabama are great… in fact, I love the whole list
Thanks for grabbing the tag from BMB
Thanks, Nickie! I agree with you that narrowing it down to five would be impossible. It was a struggle even to get this far – the Top Rated list on my ipod has almost 200 songs on it…
It also took me ages to write up the post as I kept on having to stop and listen to the songs all the way through on YouTube!
Good choices! I agree, Johnny Cash’s version of Personal Jesus is better than the original.
Isn’t it? I do like the original but the Johnny Cash version just seems so much more poignant.
